A group of seniors on the Denham Springs softball team know all about playoff softball.

They've been to the semifinals, and last year, they even made it to the finals. The only thing missing for these girls is that championship victory and being their final year, it's now or never.

The buzz around Denham Springs surrounds the Yellow Jackets softball team, who are just three wins away from a state title. The program is no stranger to success, in fact the team made run at a championship last year, only to fall short.

“It's tough,” stated senior leftfielder Natalie Landry. “We all feel the same - we are not going to settle for second place, because that four-hour ride was not fun.”

"It's a little disappointing to get all the way there,” agreed senior pitcher Madison Vige. “You really hope to take all of it, and to come up short, it does leave a bad taste in our mouths, but we know we can come back and take it all this year.”

For a while, it looked as if they didn’t have what it takes to get back, but a late season surge has them heading to the quarterfinals as a 17th seed.

Head coach David Bourque stated, "We preach that we really want to play our best towards the end, and in the last 15 games, we really have turned it around: hitting better, pitching better and playing better defense."

Many other local teams heading to Sulphur along with Denham Springs, eyeing that state championship.

All the action starts on Friday, with the Yellow Jackets taking on Same Houston in the quaterfinals. If they go on to the semifinals, they are only two games away from winning that state championship.
