Fifteen days until Christmas; What could the forecast be?
BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — As many of us prepare for Christmas, just 15 days away, the questions begun to pop-up...
"Will we see a White Christmas?" "Will it rain?" "Will it be cold or will it be hot?"
These are all good questions, but, as we all know, peering into the future just 7-days out is hard to do.
Let's, just for fun, look anyway...
Right now, the American weather model, called the GFS, is forecasting a DRY and COLD Christmas in south Louisiana. The model predicts a cold front will move through on Christmas Eve, giving the region rainfall. Then, the front will move eastward by Christmas Day and leave temperatures very chilly. High could plummet into the 40s or 50s, if the GFS is correct.
Although, it is still too soon to pin-down a true forecast, a White Christmas doesn't look promising. Although, it has happened twice since the late-1800s in Baton Rouge-- a trace on December 25, 1953 & 2004.
We'll have to keep watching the models this week. Maybe, if you wish hard enough, the possible Christmas cold front might come to fruition. Otherwise, our season Christmas temperatures are in the lower-60s. We'll just have to wait and see.
