BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — Afternoon Tropical Update: Tropical Storm Isaac is quickly moving west around 21 mph. He will head over the Leeward Islands and into the Caribbean Sea today. The National Hurricane Center predicts Isaac will near Puerto Rico tomorrow, then turn toward Dominican Republic and Haiti late Thursday into Friday as a tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane. After Friday, areas in Cuba and South Florida should monitor the track closely as Isaac will near them this weekend.
It is still too soon to give us an "all-clear" with this cyclone moving toward Louisiana. Tropical models keep shifting westward. However, it does appear that a Florida landfall is more likely.
Isaac Stats (As of 1:00 p.m. CST):
Location: 15.8N 60.2W

Also brewing in the tropics is Tropical Depression Ten. It formed Wednesday morning in the Atlantic Basin, behind Tropical Storm Isaac, and is moving WNW around 16 mph. It could become Tropical Storm Joyce later today. However, we are less concerned about this cyclone because it will not be affecting any land masses over the next few days.
