BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — A series of hurricane awareness webinars presented by the "Hurricanes: Science and Society" team are set to air for students and teachers around the Gulf Coast on March 18 or 21.
The hurricane webinars are intended for 5th graders to raise awareness in advance of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. The hour long presentation will include speakers from the National Hurricane Center and NOAA Aircraft Operation Center. Both government groups are responsible for giving important information to people before, during and after a tropical cyclone.
The presentations will be Gulf Coast specific and will allow students to interact with the speakers with questions collected in advance of the webinars. The webinar promises to include many videos, visualizations, graphics, and a virtual tour of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida.
Teachers are asked to register at least one week before the webinar airs.
