South Louisiana is under a slight risk for severe weather overnight due to a cold front that will bring more seasonable temperatures by the end of the week.

The storm system will pass through 10 states and has the potential to bring damaging winds and tornadoes. However, north Louisiana is more likely to feel the brunt of the storm force.

"An increasing threat for severe thunderstorms will occur through tonight in advance of a strong cold front moving across the central United States," the weather service's Storm Prediction Center said. "The most intense thunderstorms are anticipated late this afternoon and especially into the overnight hours tonight across parts of the lower Ohio Valley, mid-South and lower Mississippi Valley."

For the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, expect to see the line of storms approaching after midnight and exiting before 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Temperatures are anticipated to plummet after the rain passes.
