St. James issues manditory evacuation for some areas
ST. JAMES PARISH, LA — St. James Parish Officials continue to monitor any developments through conference calls and meetings with Governor’s Office of Homeland Security (GOHSEP) and the National Weather Service, as well as with local parish and town officials.
-A mandatory evacuation is in effect for all mobile homes, flood prone and low-lying areas located within St. James Parish.
-Two official St. James Parish shelters will open for parish residents only at, Lutcher High School in Lutcher and St. James Parish High School in St. James, starting tonight at 6 p.m.
-Transportation will be available to the shelter locations only tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 6 to 8 a.m. Residents seeking transportation will need to contact the Department Of Human Resources at 225.562.2352 to schedule a ride. To accommodate residents with special needs please contact 1-800-228-9409.
-Residents seeking shelter at one of the two official parish shelters will need to provide medication and all necessities including water and food for 72-hours.
-For other shelter locations out of the parish, residents are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross at 211.
-A parish wide curfew will go into effect starting Tuesday from 9 p.m. to sunrise.
-Products containing alcohol will NOT be sold after 9 p.m.
- Please do not put garbage out for collection as trucks will not run Tuesday through Thursday.
