BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — It's one of the hottest days in Baton Rouge so far. Those who have to work out in this heat, say the higher the temperature goes, the harder it is to stay cool.
Tyler Robinson works outside all the time. He said he loves it, but when it's this hot, he would rather stay inside.
"It's pretty hot. I can't remember the last time it's been this hot. There's a little breeze going, but once that stops, it's just back to heat and I think it's only going to get worse," Robinson said. "Summer's just starting, so wait til it warms up."
John Clark braves the heat every year. He has to because he's a construction worker. He said you just have to be prepared.
"But if you feel like you are getting overheated or anything, what we normally do is tell the guys, well everybody, look out for everybody else," Clark said. "You go sit down and cool off for ten or fifteen minutes, and then you come back to try to keep anybody from falling out."
This is why Clark said, it's all about staying hydrated.
"When you feel like you really need it, we also have Gatorade and stuff like that we keep on the job site for the guys to drink," Clark said.
"To keep you from getting too dehydrated, we'd rather you sit down and cool off, if it takes you ten or fifteen minutes."
Clark said the key to staying safe in this heat is simple.
"Stay safe, protect yourself," he said. "If you feel like you're getting over heated, sit down, cool off for a while and rest."
So remember, if you can't stay cool, stay safe. Make sure you're hydrated, rest when you need to, and wear loose clothing.
