UPDATE: Due to the most recent storm forecast released by the National Weather Service, the mandatory evacuation put in place for parts of Plaquemines Parish will be changed to a voluntary evacuation beginning at noon today.

ORIGINAL: On Friday, Oct. 4, Plaquemines Parish declared a manditory evacuation in anticipation of Tropical Storm Karen for the eastbank of Plaquemines Parish and areas on the westbank with no levee protection.

A state of emergency has been delcared for the entire parish. A voluntary evacuation is being called for the westbank of Plaquemines Parish from Ironton to Venice.

Officials have canceled all Plaquemines Parish Recreation Department games that were scheduled for the weekend.

“We are fully prepared for a potential heavy rain event. All pump stations are operational and we have crews on stand-by,” said President Nungesser.
