As Tropical Storm Karen moves closer to the Gulf states, those in areas that could be hit are left hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.

It is business as usual at Val's Marina in Maurepas, but all eyes have stayed glued to local weather channels.

"I think we should know something by tomorrow evening, you know what we should do, if we should pick up or just leave well enough alone. Things like that. So we'll just wait and see," shared Nicole Bell, owner of Val’s Marina.

Those in the lower lying areas of Livingston Parish have said they are watching Tropical Storm Karen closely, but they're not pulling out the sandbags yet and are still hopeful the storm will miss them.

"All of these individuals that are here have been through Hurricane Katrina, so we're always concerned about those storms coming back," added Janice Thompson.

"You never know what can happen, if we have another Isaac, that's another six, seven months closed again, you know. So that kind of wears on you," explained Bell.

Livingston Parish Emergency Preparedness Director Mark Harrell said the storm doesn't look like too big of a threat, but they are not going to let it catch them off guard.

"We're getting prepared for it, just in case. Sandbags will be on stand-by, sands there. We're going through doing a little maintenance on the high water vehicles to make sure they're ready, fueled up, ready to go," explained Harrell.

As for Nicole Bell, and the others in flood-prone areas, they're sure by now they can weather any storm.

"We can all keep an eye on each other, help each other where need be, so they'll prevail, they always do," she explained.
