Forceful winds & high waves hit beaches as Hurricane Sandy approaches

NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Across the Northeast a rising tide is sending violent waves crashing down on coastal communities as Hurricane Sandy pushes closer towards shore.
In Ordley Beach, New York the waters are already uncomfortable close to homes.
Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated in New York and New Jersey.
Public transpiration is shut down and thousands of flights canceled.
Schools and businesses are also closed.
Sandy is over 700 miles wide, packing wind and rain that could last 36 hours.
Homeowners in the storm's path spent sunday boarding up and gathering last minute emergency supplies.
Widespread power outages are expected as the storm progresses, and officials warn that in some cases residents may be without electricity for up to two weeks.
