It's a common scene just off River Road in Denham Springs - water that's being measured in feet and not inches.

John Benton lives in the area. He said he's seen high water - even higher than what he's dealing with now - but it's still a big problem.

“This is not good”, stated Benton. “It's a flood, obviously.”

These warnings are not just for the Amite River, but the Comite and Tickfaw as well. In Denham Springs, the water is knocking on front doors, flooding front yards and even making roads impassable.

Some parts of Livingston Parish have four or even five feet of water in their front yards and more rain is expected. But even with all that water, Benton is optimistic,” It appears to be at the level where it'll start going down, and I'm grateful for that.”

There is good news for the area: the Amite River is around 32 feet, which is three feet above flood stage; however, a crest is expected tonight or tomorrow, and that's when the river will start falling again.

The Amite is expected to be below flood stage by Monday morning.
