Baker, La (NBC33) — Baker Mayor Harold Rideau isn't taking Isaac lightly. The tropical storm knocked out power to all of the city's residents early Wednesday morning, and that's even before the storms strongest rain and wind hit the city.
Hurricane Isaac also caused several downed power lines in Baker. To try and prepare as much as possible for the upcoming hurricane, Rideau had a plan.
"We developed a hurricane preparedness plan. That includes public works, police department and the fire department - we all work together,” stated Rideau. “Public safety is number one, so we're all out there working to make sure we meet the needs of Baker citizens.”
This dedication isn't by accident - he thought his city was ill-prepared when Hurricane Katrina devastated Baker, and he never wants that to happen again.
Even though he's hopeful that'll be enough, with hurricanes being as unpredictable as they are, he's just not sure.
"We're prepared. We know we're ready, but we don't know what's going to happen."
