STORMTRACKER33 — Tropical Storm Ma-On is on a path heading toward Japan. Currently the storm has winds of 55 mph, but will likely become a typhoon within the next day or so. Forecast models develop this storm into a super typhoon within the next 3-4 days. It is unclear at this point if the storm will directly impact Japan. Some models have it on a more westerly path and making landfall on the southwestern part of Japan, others have it curving poleward sooner. We will continue to track the progress of Ma-On. Closer to home in the Atlantic Basin, tropical development is not expected for the next 48 hours. However, some models are indicating the possibly of a tropical cyclone trying to form within the next 5-7 days in the Caribbean and moving to the west toward the Yucatan Peninsula. Another spot the models are hinting at is right off the coast of the Carolinas or northern part of Florida. Of course, these models change from day to day, so we will keep you posted as the models change.
