Irene triggers Vermont floods
Brattleboro, VT (NBC) — Tropical Storm Irene turned gentle streams into raging rivers in southern Vermont on Sunday.
Families were caught off guard in West Brattleboro, forced to quickly evacuate their homes as the water suddenly rose. In downtown Brattleboro, quiet creeks became raging rivers. Businesses and neighborhoods were left underwater.
City officials are still working to survey the damage.
