BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Hurricane season starts Friday and the American Red Cross is asking you to get ready to help out if disaster strikes.
If people are evacuated the Red Cross needs volunteers to make the evacuees feel at home. The Red Cross is offering shelter training next month.
That training is what people need before being able to help in a shelter.
The one day workshops are offered on June 9 and July 14 with training beginning at 9:00 a.m. both days.
“We want people to come out and be trained in advance so that they're able to make the most difference,” Nancy Malone, American Red Cross, explained. “So when that storm comes they're ready to get their boots on the ground and they can do to work because they've been trained. They know what they need to do and they're able to get started.”
If you would like to participate in the training classes call 1-800-256-4733.
