Local author tells world “Louisiana Rocks!”

Friday, June 18, 2010 - 6:33pm

On Saturday, June 19, local author Tom Aswell will undergo a book signing at Barnes & Noble in CitiPlace Court. His book – “Louisiana Rocks! The True Genesis of Rock & Roll” – is a complete history for the evolution of rock music in Louisiana.

The five-hundred page novel argues that rock and roll started in New Orleans in 1947 when Roy Brown recorded “Good Rockin’ Tonight.” He then reviews the influence of swamp pop, Cajun, zydeco, R&B, rockabilly, country, and blues music.

Not only does provide all the facts – it has a personal side, too.

“[This book provides] terrific insights to the musicians,” Aswell said during our interview. “It makes them people instead of just some distant musician that we listen to on the radio. It made them someone that we know and that’s what I strive to do. I also strive to make the state aware of the wonderful musical legacy that we have here in Louisiana.”

The book signing will begin at 7 p.m. For more information call 225.926.9491.
