BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA)--The mayor-elect of New Roads will be heading into office next year as planned.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals voted to uphold a ruling by the lower court to throw out a lawsuit against Robert Myer.  The family of current mayor Tommy Nelson Jr.  filed two separate lawsuits saying wasn't living in Pointe Coupee parish when he filed to run for mayor.

Both lawsuits were thrown out.  Rosetta Jackson, Nelson's mother, had filed an appeal.  Myer says it's time for the Nelson family and the city of New Roads to move on.

"It's time for new roads to get out of the news in a negative way and let's start putting a positive light on where we want to go," says Myer.

Myer starts as mayor in January.

Nelson will be back in court next March to face federal racketeering and bribery charges.
