Tip leads cops to escaped trustees
BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — It was their prison garb that would eventually land two escaped trustees back behind bars. After 10 hours on the run, someone spotted the stripes and called the cops.
Brett Hebert and Charles Lidberg were arrested at 10:15 Sunday night. They escaped around noon that same day. The men were part of a cleaning crew, working at the Department of Transportation and Development in Baton Rouge when they walked away.
The two turned up in the 6400 block of Greenwell Springs Road Sunday night. Someone called Baton Rouge Police to report two men in prison outfits in the area. The caller was able to keep track of the men until police arrived and blocked off the area. A police K-9 brought the men down.
Hebert and Lidberg are serving time at Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, Louisiana. Hebert had been convicted of robbery and aggravated battery; Lidberg was convicted of burglary and theft. The men will face more charges related to their escape.
