Tangipahoa Sheriff's deputies have arrested a trustee that attempted to escape custody.

John Johnson, 36, went missing Thursday around 10:00 p.m. as him and a deputy were closing a maintenance shop on LA-51 in Amite.

Police located Johnson on the Tangipahoa River about three miles North of LA-190.

When the officer approached his car, he noticed that Johnson was gone. The search then began, with deputies unable to find Johnson. They soon learned that he was picked up and fled the area in a vehicle.

Terri Sowash, 35; Patrick Snedden, 43; Stephen Johnson, 17; and Judy Johnson, 66, were all arrested Friday morning and charged with principle to simple escape.

Johnson has been officially charged with simple escape. He was currently serving 10 years after his 6th DWI arrest. He is currently back in the parish jail.
