Two former Tigers on Major League Baseball rosters
BATON ROUGE, LA — Two former LSU players appear on Major League Baseball playoff rosters as the postseason begins this weekend.
Shortstop Ryan Theriot of the St. Louis Cardinals and second baseman Aaron Hill of the Arizona Diamondbacks are in contention for a berth in the World Series.
Theriot and the Cardinals open their National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT , while Hill and the Diamondbacks begin their NLDS versus the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
Theriot, a three-year starter at LSU from 1999-2001, hit .271 (120-for-442) in the 2011 regular season for the Cardinals with 26 doubles, one triple, one homer, 47 RBI and 46 runs scored.
The Baton Rouge native is in his seventh MLB season and his first with St. Louis. He played in six seasons for the Chicago Cubs and a portion of 2010 with the Los Angeles Dodgers before joining the Cardinals prior to this season.
Hill, who played at LSU from 2001-03 and was named the 2003 SEC Player of the Year, played in seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays before being traded to Arizona on August 23.
The Visalia, Calif. native batted .315 (39-for-124) in 33 regular-season games with the Diamondbacks, collecting 12 doubles, two triples, two homers, 16 RBI and 23 runs.
A 2009 American League All-Star with the Blue Jays, Hill was also named the 2009 American League Comeback Player of the Year.
