BATON ROUGE, La (LSU) - Three former LSU baseball players appear on Major League Baseball playoff rosters as the postseason begins on Wednesday.

Relief ace Brian Wilson and second baseman Mike Fontenot of the San Francisco Giants, and outfielder Brad Hawpe of the Tampa Bay Rays are former Tigers that are in contention for a berth in the World Series.

Hawpe and the Rays open their American League Division Series against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon, while Wilson, Fontenot and the Giants begin their National League Division Series versus the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.

Wilson, a right-hander who pitched at LSU from 2001-03, recorded an MLB-leading 48 saves during the regular season. The 2008 and 2010 National League All-Star posted a 1.81 ERA in 74.2 innings (70 appearances) and collected 93 strikeouts.

Fontenot, LSU's starting second baseman in 2000 and 2001, hit .283 (68-for-240) in the 2010 regular season with 13 doubles, three triples, one homer, 25 RBI and 24 runs scored. He played in 75 games this season for the Chicago Cubs before he was traded to the Giants on August 11.

Hawpe, an outfielder/first baseman at LSU in 1999 and 2000, hit . 245 (73-for-298) during the 2010 regular season with 21 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 44 RBI and 31 runs.

A 2009 National League All-Star for the Colorado Rockies, Hawpe played in 88 games this season for the Rockies before he joined the Rays on August 27.

Hawpe helped lead the Rockies to the 2007 World Series, where Colorado was defeated by the Boston Red Sox.
