NBC NATIONAL NEWS — The woman whose photo became the face of Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend is speaking out for the first time.
Diane O'Meara says a photo of her was pulled from her Facebook page and used as the fictitious Lenay Kekua, the alleged girlfriend of the Notre Dame linebacker.
The Los Angeles marketing executive said until last week, she didn't even know who Te'o was.
She says a former high school classmate, the alleged perpetrator of the hoax, not only confessed to stealing her Facebook photos, but also apologized for using the image in the prank.
“I've never met Manti Te'o in my entire life. I've never spoken with him. I've never exchanged words, tweets,” stated O’Meara. “The past five years, he (the hoaxer) has literally been stalking my Facebook and stealing my photos.”
The hoax creator hasn't responded to multiple calls for comment from NBC News. Te'o meanwhile insists he, like O'Meara, is a victim of the prank.
