BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — After 16 years as head coach for the Lady Jags, Nancy Marshal was let go.
Marshal, along with the rest of the softball staff, was let go last week. Southern Athletic Director William Broussard said due to their 6 and 42 season, plus two consecutive seasons of not being invited to the Southwestern Athletic Conference, it's time for a change.
Broussard says players are sad, but they're ready for a new beginning.
"The returning players that we have are encouraged and optimistic about next year,” he said. “They really want to wipe the slate clean and get the taste of this year out of their mouths and get ready to fight next fall."
The athletics department is in search for a new coach.
Broussard said they will post the position in the next couple of days, and plans on having the new coach approved by July 1, 2013.
