BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Several Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) students will carry the Bayou Classic game-ball through seven parishes and over a dozen towns before reaching the Mercedes Benz Super Dome in New Orleans this weekend.
The total distance is more than 95 miles. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Bayou Classic Motivational Run.
On Friday Nov. 29, students from Southern, LSU, and BRCC will begin the run at 5:30 a.m. at A.W Mumford Stadium on Southern’s campus.
The run was originally the brainchild of a few Marines in 1992 who wanted to ceremoniously deliver the game ball to officials on the day of the Bayou Classic.
At the start of the run, many supporters will gather to cheer on the runners as they get set to carry on this longstanding tradition.
During pre-game activities on Saturday, Nov. 30, Midshipmen will run the game ball onto the field and present it to the game’s sponsor.
If you would like to intercept the Midshipmen during the run, call LT Erik Gardner at 904-994-2558 for precise location. For more general information on the “Bayou Classic Motivational Run” please contact Captain Daniel Struzik, USMC at (225) 771-4676 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
