Since his first year as Southern University baseball head coach, Roger Cador has seen just about everything.

"Every year has its own little twists and turn to it," Cador said one day away from the teams season opener.

This year the Jaguars won't start the season at Lee-Hines Field like they planned to. Their field is in the final stages of a major renovation.

"No big deal. We just won't have the comfort of our own place," the head coach said.

Ironically, a pair of senior infielders, who have no infield to practice on, are taking on the role of leaders for this 2013 season.

First baseman Derrick Hopkins and shortstop Jeremy Lopez want to end their college career with a bang.

"It's championship or failure," Hopkins said.

"I want to leave an imprint on this program," added Lopez.

Southern will play their first weekend series at Pete Goldsby field. That's where they will take on Stillman College. The first game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Friday.
