BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Southern men’s basketball program was honored Friday night for their remarkable turnaround. The Jags won just three conference games in the 2010-11 season under former head coach Rob Spivery. Under new leadership, the team pulled off 13 wins in the SWAC. First year head coach Roman Banks earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year.

“Very surprising, I didn't expect that. I never dreamed of individual honors but I would trade it in for a championship I will tell you that. I want to thank my peers and coaching family for a job worthwhile and I really appreciate that,” Banks said.
