Southeastern continues to climb in national polls
HAMMOND, LA — After extending its win streak to seven games and remaining atop the Southland Conference standings, the Southeastern Louisiana football team continued to rise in the national polls, which were released on Monday.
The Lions were ranked No. 16 in the Sports Network poll and No. 17 in the FCS Coaches poll last week. But after rolling to a 58-31 victory at No. 24 Central Arkansas, Southeastern has climbed to 14th in both the TSN and coaches polls. Southeastern tallied 545 total yards – including a season-high 343 rushing yards – and posted its highest-ever scoring total versus a Southland Conference opponent in the win over the Bears.
For the third straight week, Southeastern will face a nationally ranked opponent. Sam Houston State, which visits Hammond on Saturday, is currently fourth in both polls. The Lions and Bearkats are joined by Southland Conference rival McNeese State (No. 9 –TSN/No. 11 – FCS Coaches) in the national rankings.
The Lions (8-2, 5-0 Southland) will have a chance to clinch a share of the Southland Conference championship and a FCS playoff berth on Saturday, when they host the Bearkats at 3 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Saturday’s game will be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network (Charter Channel 14 in the Hammond area). The game will also air on KSLU 90.9 FM, the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, as well as Northshore Broadcasting stations Kajun 107.1 FM and The Joint 104.7 FM.
