All of a sudden, Hammond is a hot spot for college football. The Lions (9-2, 6-0) have won eight straight games and already have at least a share of the Southland title. Thursday they will host Nicholls St. (4-7, 1-5) in hopes of claiming sole possession of a conference championship since 1961.

“It's not just the River Bell or playing Nicholls, it's about the playoffs and how it can affect our seeding. This is a big game. You can't pat yourself on the back. What we have done to this point could be tainted if we don't take care of business Thursday,” Southeastern head coach Ron Roberts said at his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

In less than two seasons he’s brought life back to the program. It’s a program that has only been around for ten years after taking an 18 year hiatus.
Roberts doesn’t think his team has played their best football yet.

But, he knows they'll need to continue to get better before the FCS Playoffs begin.

“You got to show up every week and go play. You don't have a month to prepare for an opponent. You are going to have to do it week in and week out. Right now, it's a good time to go to the playoffs and you want your team playing their best in November and December,” Roberts said.

Kickoff for Thursday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.

Nicholls leads the all-time series against SLU 12-10.
