Saints go with new kicker for Sunday's game
NEW ORLEANS (NBC) — With a huge division game coming up on Sunday against Carolina, the New Orleans Saints have made changes in the kicking game.
Coach Sean Payton says the Saints have signed veteran kicker Shayne Graham and released Garrett Hartley.
Graham is a 12-year NFL veteran who played for Houston last season.
New Orleans cut Hartley two days after he made one of three field goals in the Saints’ disappointing loss against the St. Louis Rams. Hartley was just 22-of-30 for the season.
Hartley was the Saints’ kicker for their only Super Bowl Championship in 2010. His 40-yard field goal ended the NFC championship game against the Vikings that year.
Graham was one of five kickers worked out by the Saints in November when the Saints decided to stick with Hartley.
