They came from all over the world, from Atlanta to Melbourne Australia, for the chance to continue playing the sport they love.

And Sunday, hundreds of aspiring athletes took to Del Oro High School's football field to try out for the Sacramento Mountain Lions.

"We're the only one in the UFL to hold an open tryout so it's an opportunity for kids to come here showcase their skills," said Head Coach Turk Schonert.

And showcase their skills they did – from running and blocking, to catching and kicking.

Outside of football, these athletes have a wide array of skillsets, from Silicon Valley entrepreneur to landscaping.

But one has a slightly more interesting job – Mayor Pro Tem of West Sacramento.

At age 45 Oscar E. Villegas says he's ready to move from City Hall to the football field. He was out at the tryouts Sunday.

"It's a personal thing that you want to continue to prove yourself and I figured I'm not getting any younger," Villegas said.

"The cleats are my son's cleats. He thinks I'm crazy but he loves it, so I'm going to give it one last chance."

For many others, it's their last chance as well.
