Man shot outside stadium during baseball game

POSTED: Saturday, August 18, 2012 - 10:00pm

UPDATED: Saturday, August 18, 2012 - 10:04pm

One man was taken to the hospital after a shooting Friday night outside University of Phoenix Stadium.

Glendale fire PIO Jose Morales said the 30-year-old man was shot in the face. The shooting happened in the purple parking lot, which is located northwest of the stadium on 95th Avenue near Maryland.

Glendale Police PIO Tracey Breeden said the incident started as an altercation between two men in the parking lot.

Glendale police dispatchers received a 911 call at about 9:30 p.m. from a man stating he had accidentally shot another man, said Sgt. Brent Coombs.

Coombs said the suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was then taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center with stable vital signs.

Glendale police said he was expected to be OK. No one else was hurt.

The man police took into custody was interviewed by police detectives and later released. Coombs said the incident appears to be "fan based."

Charges against both men are pending. Coombs said there are no "outstanding suspects and no arrests have been made."

No names are being released.

The shooting happened about one hour before the conclusion of the Arizona Cardinals game against the Raiders.
