Sports

POSTED: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - 6:00pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - 7:11pm

BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – This is and NBC33 Sports update -- Les Miles will remain the coach at LSU. Miles told LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva the news Tuesday morning.

"I am pleased to announce that Les MIles will remain the head coach at LSU," said Alleva.

Miles will have a press conference upon his return from Dallas where he is speaking at the convention of the American Football Coaches Association.

NBC33 will have more on the story on our 5 p.m. newscast.

Late Monday night LSU spokesperson Michael Bonnette confirmed head coach Les Miles met with officials from Michigan Monday evening. Bonnette added that Les Miles is still the Tiger's head coach, as he travels to Dallas to speak at the American Football Coaches Association meeting today.

If Miles does make the move, who could be the next top Tiger? Here are some names on the table: Mississippi head coach Dan Mullen, Nebraska head coach Bo Pellini and current Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio.

LSU has repeatedly said Miles is their man and they'll do what they can to keep him.

Les Miles met with Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon in Baton Rouge on Monday evening. Brandon then left Baton Rouge on a plane that was headed back to Michigan. NBC33 Sports will keep you up to date on the Miles to Michigan situation as details become available.

Is Les Miles thinking about a move to Michigan? The coach is made a big announcement earlier today.

Mile says he’s planning to meet with Michigan about that open job at some point. Today we spoke with Derek Ponamsky, Publisher of Bayou Bengals Insider, about the rumors swirling around whether or not Miles will head off to coach the Michigan Wolverines.

As of right now, Ponamsky says Michigan has not yet made an official offer to Miles. Considering the pay off for the two positions would be pretty similar, he believes the only reason Miles would take the Wolverine head coaching job would be because it’s his alma mater.

Ponamsky then went in to detail about what he thinks the Tigers will have to do to keep Miles in Purple and Gold.

“The security that he will get off of this will not be more money,” he explained. “It’ll be years added on to the contract. I’ll be a little more say in the power of the program.”

Candidates for the LSU job if Miles decides to leave for Michigan include Mississippi State Head Coach Dan Mullen, Nebraska Head Coach Bo Pellini and current Jaguars Head Coach Jack Del Rio.
