Mathook, Tigers complete sweep of Holy Cross
BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - Mikie Mahtook belted his fifth home run of the season to help the LSU baseball team complete a three game sweep over Holy Cross with a 15-4 victory on Sunday. Mahtook and fellow outfielder Trey Watkins each drove in three runs as LSU remains undefeated on the year.
For the first time since the 2009 season LSU scored double-digit runs in four straight games. LSU first baseman Alex Edward had one of his best games as a Tiger going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in and he also scored three runs.
Senior right-handed pitcher Ben Alsup (2-0) pitched six strong innings while allowing only one earned run.
LSU (7-0) will take on in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.
"Tuesday night will be a very big game for us," LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri said. "Southeastern will be the best team we've played so far; they have a tremendous club that is off to a very hot start. I'm expecting a great crowd and a lot of excitement on Tuesday night."
