The LSU softball team exceeded just about everyone’s expectations in 2012. That’s when first year head coach Beth Torina took the Tigers to the women’s College World Series. That sets the bar quite high for the future tiger teams. Torina realizes that making the World Series doesn’t come easy and if the 2013 team has their work cut out for them if they are going to make a return trip.

“I think the taste and experience of the College World Series is something that will take us a long way.  I am trying really hard to make them understand that is not something that entitles them or gives them extra benefits.  They actually have to work and earn their way back there. We try to preach that to them on a daily basis.  They have to be themselves, and they have to win and get there their own way,” Torina said Monday as LSU held their media day at Tiger Park.

Seven senior are gone from a year ago but Torina is excited about several freshman she feels can make a difference.

Bianka Bell, Sandra Simmons, and Hailey Smith, these guys will continue to set the tone for our offense. Bringing in these freshmen, they came in with a different mentality. They are very aggressive type of hitters, and they are aggressive players. I think they will set the tone for our offense this season,” Torina said.
The Tigers will play host to Hampton, No. 22 North Carolina, Purdue and Tulsa as part of the Tiger Classic from February 8-10.

Season tickets can be purchased for $75 and single-game tickets are now on-sale at for a marquee home schedule that features 15 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament participants. The Tigers also will welcome defending national champion Alabama along with Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina for three-game SEC series.
