The LSU softball team will play eight three-game SEC weekend series during the 2013 season announced Thursday under the new league format revealed by the conference office.

With Missouri and Texas A&M joining the conference effective July 1, SEC softball will have 13 teams. Texas A&M will compete with LSU in the Western Division, while Missouri will participate in the Eastern Division.

2013 SEC Schedule

The 2013 SEC softball schedule is not based on any other previous or future scheduling formats. The SEC Athletics Directors are currently in the process of formulating scheduling principles for the 2013-14 season and beyond.

LSU's conference docket will shrink from the current 28-game format down to 24 league tilts. There will no longer be mid-week doubleheaders. The SEC Tournament will remain in its current eight-team, single-elimination format.

"We're excited for the future of SEC softball with the additions of Missouri and Texas A&M," head coach Beth Torina said. "They will definitely make an already tough conference stronger. Obviously, it would be great to compete against every team in the SEC each season, but we're looking forward to the challenge of the eight teams we get to face."

LSU will travel to Mississippi State (March 8-10) on SEC opening weekend before welcoming Kentucky (March 15-17) and South Carolina (March 22-24) to Tiger Park during consecutive weekends.

The Tigers also play host to Missouri (April 19-21) and Alabama (April 26-28) along with trips to Arkansas (April 5-7) and Texas A&M (April 12-14). LSU will not face Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss or Tennessee during the regular season.

LSU returns to the action Friday to open a three-game SEC weekend series at South Carolina. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. CT with live audio and live stats available inside the Geaux Zone on The game also will be carried live on Country Legends 104.9 FM in the Baton Rouge area. Patrick Wright and Matt Dunaway will call the action.
