Softball honored at Idaho game
BATON ROUGE, LA — The LSU softball team was honored on the field at Tiger Stadium during the first quarter of Saturday’s football game versus Idaho. The Tigers also got to view a special highlight video spotlighting their run to the 2012 Women’s College World Series put together by the LSU Television Department. Earlier in the day, the Tigers received their WCWS rings after completing a scavenger hunt from the coaching staff. The rings are silver with a golden face, and the interlocking LSU logo appears on the top. On the left side of the ring is the WCWS logo with the word “Tigers” above, while the right side features the team’s 2012 motto of “Whatever IT Takes” with the individual’s last name. All 22 players have the phrase “Earned IT” engraved on the inside of their ring. This coincides with the “Whatever IT Takes” theme. “This was a very special moment for our program,” head coach Beth Torina said. “Being honored on the field at Tiger Stadium is something I know our players, and our staff will never forget. We’re excited about getting back to work and looking forward to the journey ahead for the 2013 season.” LSU finished its inaugural season under Torina a 40-25 record and made the program's third appearance at the Women's College World Series. It marked the 14th time in 16 seasons that the Tigers finished with at least 40 victories since softball was reinstated in 1997. LSU is slated to return 14 letterwinners for the 2013 campaign sparked by NFCA First-Team All-America Rachele Fico along with All-SEC Freshman pick A.J. Andrews.
