LSU Libraries Special Collections invites the public to join in a fascinating night of football and earthquake talk on Tuesday, Oct. 15, with two speakers – longtime Baton Rouge sportswriter Sam King and LSU associate professor of geology and geophysics Juan Lorenzo.

King and Lorenzo will come together at Hill Memorial Library to talk about LSU football, seismology and the legendary “Earthquake Game” of October 1988 between the LSU Tigers and the Auburn Tigers in Baton Rouge. The event is free and open to the public.

This event is being held in conjunction with Special Collections’ current exhibit, “Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium.” The exhibit includes Special Collections’ first-ever touchscreen display. Visitors will be able to see the real seismogram from the 1988 game. Copies of Sam King's new book, “Tiger Beat: Covering LSU Sports for 35 Years” (Acadian House, 2013), will be available for purchase and signing. A reception and signing will follow the talks.

Also in attendance will be the famed LSU Seismeauxbile, a mobile unit which Lorenzo and his students use for recording studying seismic activity for research.

Hill Memorial Library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays (closed on Saturdays when the LSU Football team is playing at home). When classes are in session, the library is open Tuesday evenings until 8 p.m. Free, close public parking is available for this and any event that takes place after 4:30 p.m. in the lot next to the Indian Mounds. For more information, visit the LSU Libraries Special Collections website at www.lib.lsu.edu/special or contact Head of Special Collections Jessica Lacher-Feldman at 225-578-6544.
