A shocking end to the LSU baseball season has the Stony Brook Seawolves heading to the College World Series for the first time in the program’s history.

Following Sunday night's disappointing loss, LSU Head Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri said, "Not many people in the South knew who Stony Brook was… they do now."

If no one else, the fans here in Baton Rouge who watched the Super Regional certainly know who the Seawolves are, and after what took place over the weekend, they won't soon forget the team from Long Island, New York.

Paul Manieri's Tigers were outhit, outpitched and outperformed defensively over the three-game series, which proved the group from the Northeast are no fluke.

"We have no excuses,” stated Mainieri. “They outplayed us really in every phase of the game. It’s hard for me to find weaknesses with their team. I would not be surprised if they went on to win the College World Series. If there is a better team, I would like to see them."

LSU's season comes to a screeching halt in front of the largest crowd ever to watch a baseball game at Alex Box Stadium.
