LSU's Patrick Peterson to host tailgate

LSU's Patrick Peterson to host tailgate

POSTED: Monday, September 24, 2012 - 7:31am

UPDATED: Monday, September 24, 2012 - 10:15am

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and former LSU star and current Arizona Cardinal Patrick Peterson and his Foundation for Success will host the 2nd annual “Walking on Sunshine Family Fun Day” Tailgate on before the LSU/Towson game Saturday, Sept. 29 at Walk-On’s on Burbank.

The proceeds from this fun filled and powerful event will be donated to three special and inspiring children from local communities in Louisiana who are courageously battling cancer.

The true inspiration behind this great event comes from the incredible story of a special girl, Bishop Mikaelian. In March 2009, Bishop was diagnosed with a rare and inoperable brain stem tumor called Ganglioglioma. Bishop and her family came into the Peterson’s life in 2010 when the “Make-A-Wish-Foundation” granted Bishop, a huge LSU fan, her wish to meet Patrick. At the time, Bishop had two weeks to live. It has been over two years, and Patrick and the Peterson family still have a unique relationship with Bishop and her family. Last year’s founding event was in honor of Bishop, and proceeds from that event were given to her to help with medical expenses. Bishop and her family will be the guests of honor at this year’s event. A portion of the proceeds will be used to send her and her family a surprise care package. Bishop is currently undergoing treatment at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN.

“Be it on the field with my teammates in Arizona or off the field helping kids with our Foundation for
Success, my goal is to contribute at a high level and not hold anything back”-Patrick Peterson

Net Proceeds from this year’s 2012 “Walking on Sunshine” Family Fun day will be divided equally among this
year’s three sponsored children to help each family with medical and travel expenses.

Caryn Tucker from Destrehan, La is an eleven year-old little girl overflowing with faith and love. She was
diagnosed on November 29, 2011 with an inoperable, rare form of brain cancer called Anaplastic Astrocytoma with Gliomatosis Cerebri. She is now undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, LA.

Nicholas Hooge from Laplace, La is a five year-old amazing little boy who was diagnosed in June of 2012 with a malignant brain tumor known as Medulloblastoma. He had surgery to remove the tumor and is now undergoing radiation treatment at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Originae Brown from Baton Rouge, La is a vibrant fourteen year old young lady full of joy and laughter who, in May of 2012, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). After having limb-sparing surgery in her right leg, she began twenty-two more rounds of treatment at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Multiple ticket and family discounts are included with online ticket purchases and children 3 and under are free. Your ticket includes entry into the event, a gift bag, and an all day game pass to access the mobile gaming area! Live music will be performed by American Idol star and local favorite Lindsey Cardinale.

A live auction will be held which will include signature items from Patrick Peterson, LSU memorabilia, and other great offers from local retailers who support the Foundation.

Tickets can be purchased online for $25 by clicking here

Patrick has a home game in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 30, so unfortunately will not be able to physically attend the event. However he will Skype into the event LIVE from Phoenix to interact with the children, participants, and sponsors.
