BATON ROUGE, LA — The two best football players inside AT&T Stadium Saturday night might not play a single down.
LSU running back Jeremy Hill and TCU defensive end Devonte Fields are expected to serve punishment for offseason mishaps.
Fields violated an unspecified team rule in the spring. TCU head coach Gary Patterson says Fields will be in uniform Saturday. But will he play?
LSU’s Hill pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor simple battery charge the same day the Tiger football team started training camp in August. Hill was suspended from the team in late April after being arrested following a fight outside Reggie’s Bar in Tigerland on LSU’s campus. LSU head coach Les Miles says he “would be surprised if (Hill) did not make the trip,” to Dallas for the season opener. But will he play?
Fields, as a true freshman in 2012, led the Big 10 in tackles for loss (18.5) and was third in the conference in sacks (10).
Hill, as a true freshman in 2012, led LSU in rushing with 755 yards and 12 touchdowns.
