Johnny Jones will tell you he is happy where his Tiger basketball team is right now. At 9-2 he's "pleasantly surprised" with the way his team has been able to adapt to the changes he's brought in his first season. But Wednesday the real season begins as his team will travel to Alabama to take on Auburn.

“It’s definitely a new start. Everybody is zero and zero. Anything can happen in the SEC and we are ready to play,” sophomore Johnny O’Bryant said Monday.

It’s where the rubber will meet the road so to speak.

“If you do well in conference play you have a chance to move on to the NCAA tournament,” Jones said.

“Everyone is going into as it is a new season and new mindset that anything can happen. Everyone will be looking to get off to a good start,” senior Andrew Del Piero said just days following his career high ten point outing against Bethune Cookman.

In football the SEC is known as a national powerhouse. In basketball that’s not the case but it could benefit an undersized and relatively inexperienced LSU team.

“We can definitely play ball with anybody out there. We are just going to have to show people,” said O’Bryant who has a high ankle sprain and is expected to see limited minutes in the conference opener.

“We are expecting to be tested and it will be similar competition (to what they’ve faced thus far),” Del Piero said.

Tip off for Auburn-LSU Wednesday is scheduled for 8 p.m.
