BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - LSU Women's basketball Coach Van Chancellor is stepping down to take an administrative position in the LSU Athletic Department. Chancellor will finish his last year on his contract in his new position.

“I really enjoyed my time here and I am proud of the things we accomplished,” said Chancellor. “It’s been a wonderful ride. I am very thankful that LSU gave a 63-year-old coach a chance to coach again. We’ve been to a Final Four, three NCAA Tournaments and graduated all of our seniors, but I feel like it’s time for me to step aside. I am going to be a special assistant to the athletic director. I’ll have time to spend with my family and grandkids.”

Chancellor had a record of 90-40 in his four seasons at LSU.

This year the Lady Tigers missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1998 season.
