LSU Basketball 2011-12 schedule

LSU Basketball 2011-12 schedule
Sports

POSTED: Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 2:47pm

UPDATED: Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 4:48pm

The LSU men's basketball team will play 15 home games in 2011-12, including seven in the Pete Maravich Center against teams that participated in postseason play last year and one of the most challenging non-conference schedules in many years, it was announced Thursday.

LSU season ticket holders have until Aug. 31 to renew their season tickets and $50 deposits for new season tickets are being accepted at this time at the LSU Athletics Ticket Office and at www.LSUtix.net. Season ticket holders will also have the first opportunity to purchase tickets in the LSU section at the SEC Tournament to be held at the New Orleans Arena in March 2012.

"The entire non-conference and conference schedules are very challenging, but our team is ready to accept that challenge and move forward," said LSU head coach Trent Johnson.

The Tigers, in their fourth season under Johnson, open the 2011-12 season at home with the second-ever basketball-football doubleheader on the LSU campus, hosting Nicholls on Nov. 12 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at a time to be determined. The LSU football team will host Western Kentucky in a Homecoming game in Tiger Stadium that same day.

As a special promotion for the basketball game, all fans will be admitted to the LSU-Nicholls game free of charge.

The final schedule must be approved by the LSU Athletic Council.

LSU opens the 2012 Southeastern Conference schedule on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 12:30 p.m. CT, at home against Ole Miss in a game to be televised by the SEC Network.

In the final year of divisional play for the league, the Tigers will host each of the Western Division teams and Kentucky (Jan. 28, 3 p.m.), Georgia (Feb. 22, 7 p.m.) and Tennessee (Feb. 29, 8 p.m.) from the Eastern Division. The LSU-Alabama game in Baton Rouge is slated for an ESPN2 telecast on Feb. 11.

The game with Tennessee on Feb. 29 marks the first time LSU has played on "Leap Day" since 2004 and only the third time since 1980 that LSU will have a game on a Feb. 29.

LSU faces a tough non-conference schedule that includes its first appearance in the Charleston Classic in Charleston, S.C., on Nov. 17, 18 and 20. LSU opens with Northwestern at 2 p.m. CST on Nov. 17 in a game to be televised on ESPNU.

As also announced earlier, LSU will travel to Rutgers on Dec. 3 as part of the new Big East/SEC Challenge.

At home in non-conference play, LSU will host South Alabama (Nov. 23), Boise State (Dec. 10), California-Irvine (Dec. 15), Marquette (Dec. 19), Grambling State (Dec. 29) and Virginia (Jan. 2). The Boise, UCI and Marquette games are the first year of home and home contests, while LSU played at South Alabama and Virginia a year ago.

LSU will face a minimum of 12 teams overall that made post-season play a year ago with the possibility of facing at least one more post-season team depending on the results in Charleston.

Every SEC game will be televised with LSU appearing three times on the ESPN family of networks, three times on Comcast/Cox Sports TV, twice on FSN and seven times on the over-the-air syndicated SEC Network.

LSU's final regular season league game at Auburn on March 3 will be televised on CBS Sports, LSU's first regular season appearance on the network since February 2009.

The SEC Tournament this year returns to New Orleans and makes its first appearance in the New Orleans Arena, March 8-11.

Non-conference game times and television games, including the early-season appearances on Cox Sports TV, will be announced in later weeks.
