LSU AD Joe Alleva's letter to Tiger fans
BATON ROUGE, LA — Dear Tiger Fan,
As we enter the sixth week of the 2011 football season the LSU Tigers are ranked atop the Associated Press poll. We all know it is the ranking at the end of the year that matters, but high rankings any time of the year do reflect the hard work and dedication of a lot of people in and around the program.
It reflects a tremendous job by Les Miles and his coaching staff to steer this program through the most difficult September schedule in the country amidst numerous potential distractions from off-the-field developments. Our coaching staff and the football support staff have kept the team focused and playing at the highest level week in and week out.
High rankings also reflect the loyalty of a strong fan base. Tiger fans turned Cowboys Stadium into a home field advantage for LSU, took time out of their busy schedules for a Thursday night game in Starkville and then ventured to the mountains of West Virginia to show their Tiger Pride. Meanwhile, Tiger Stadium continues to be sold out for every home game and filled with fans wearing purple and gold.
Tiger fans just keep coming through for LSU again and again. Most recently, LSU fans stepped up with donations to support the replacement of the windows in North Stadium. The fund-raising project also helped fund the new grills in the archways at the top of the exterior of Tiger Stadium and the new fencing around the field inside the stadium.
My thanks to the fans for helping preserve Tiger Stadium. The North Stadium window project gives the stadium a whole new look, but it is just the beginning of some big plans we have for the future of our historic stadium. I will have more on that to share with you in the near future.
The Florida week is always a big one in Baton Rouge and this year will be no different. The game is the SEC Game of the Week on CBS and it is also our annual Gold Game, so I hope you will wear gold Saturday to support the Tigers. This year we partnered with Nike to develop a specially designed official Gold Game t-shirt with the University's slogan "Love Purple/Live Gold" emblazoned on the front. Get yours at the LSU SportShop, www.LSUshop.net or the LSU Bookstore.
Another big part of our family is the Tiger Marching Band. If you want to see the Tiger band in a whole new way, join us for Tigerama in the Maravich Center on Friday at 8 p.m. In addition to all the Tiger Band standards, you will see some great talent on display from our students in the School of Music. Get your tickets at www.LSUtigerama.com.
Your support is important for the continued success of the Tigers. I hope you take pride with every LSU victory for the role you play and I hope Tiger Stadium will be rocking on Saturday when the Tigers take to the field. Come to campus early to enjoy tailgating, and then be loud and be proud when the game begins.
As always, we welcome your comments at firstname.lastname@example.org. Unfortunately we cannot answer every e-mail we receive, but please be assured they are all read.
