Upset City: LSU basketball defeats 10th-ranked Marquette
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The LSU men’s basketball team made a statement Monday night. Perhaps it was an early Christmas present to the fans who have watched the program struggle over the past two years. The Tigers upset 10th ranked Marquette in front of a rowdy Maravich Center crowd, 67-59.
It was the first win over a ranked opponent since the 2007 season. LSU fell behind early 13-0. However, the Tigers battled back to take a 26-23 halftime lead. The second half was back and forth but four clutch free throws by Justin Hamilton iced the game for the Tigers.
Sophomore guard Ralston Turner led the Tigers with a team high 22 points. Center Justin Hamilton added 13 points.
The Tigers hit the road to take on North Texas Thursday.
