Tigers take a break for Christmas

Sports
Thursday, December 22, 2011 - 11:30am

The LSU Tigers wrapped up practice yesterday and now the gang will enjoy a five day break from the gridiron.

"He actually had us in there singing Christmas carols today, it relaxes us you just cant be serious all the time," Brandon Taylor, senior safety, said about the last day of practice.

Tis the season to be jolly, and LSU Head Coach Les Miles is putting his best effort forward to spread the holiday joy.

"It's a tradition for us to sing Christmas carols this is my second year doing it,” Eric Reid, sophomore safety, recalled. “We sing, Jingle Bells and Joy to the World."

Call it caroling. Call it team building. Coach Miles knows what time of year it is.

"Certainly, Christmas day there will be presents," Coach Miles, said.

The family-man in Miles tells us he's excited for the break, and so is Santa. With the Tigers at home this Christmas, Santa doesn't have to travel far to find the Miles household.

"Santa will come to the house this year, we will set out the milk and cookies, and generally speaking, Santa eats both the milk and the cookies,” Coach Miles said with a smile.

As Miles is excited, so too are his kids. And not just his four biological kids, but his football family, too.

"Great time to spend time with the ones we love," Reid said.

"This is the longest we've been on break since I've been here,” Drew Alleman, junior kicker, recalled. “It’s great for us to go home and it will be a great time"

But just before then they may hurry to find the right gift for the head coach.

"I don't know, maybe some turf to play along with the eating grass joke."

"Maybe a dictionary because some of the words he says."

"Probably a Lil’ Wayne cd."

"Probably some dancing lessons because he really can’t dance."

The Tigers will return to practice on Monday, Dec. 26. Senior quarterback Jordan Jefferson is expected to meet with the media on Tuesday.

And as for the photo attached to this story? It was a tweeted by Russel Shepard and shows Les Miles as Santa.
