NEW ORLEANS, LA (WDSU) — New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton spoke out for the first time since getting suspended by the NFL.
He is facing a season long punishment for his role in the Saints' bounty program.
The team has been alleged to have taken out contracts on some opposing players to knock them out of games.
Payton has not yet revealed if he will appeal commissioner Roger Goodell's suspension. Payton says he's just ready to get back in the game.
"I think the biggest challenge, driving in here this morning, this will probably be 39 years as a pop warner player, as a high school player, college player, and then college coach, professional coach, this potentially is the first of 39 years where you're not directly involved in football for a season,” Payton said. “With that being said, I look forward to getting back in this position. I look forward to winning. And we'll do that."
Payton says he will explore all his options for an appeal with his advisors.
Payton's year long suspension starts April 1, 2012.
