One wild sports weekend in NOLA

Sports

POSTED: Friday, January 6, 2012 - 7:58pm

UPDATED: Monday, February 13, 2012 - 10:36pm

Today, Coach Miles and the LSU Tigers, who we hope come back with the championship, meet with the media before getting back to practice. In our team coverage, Matt Boudreaux and Brix Fowler spent the day in New Orleans, talking with the team and fans alike to find out how everyone is getting spending the weekend.

Fans from both teams have made their way down to the Big Easy for this titanic matchup between the top two teams in the nation. They obviously disagree over whether the crimson or the purple and gold will raise that Crystal Ball at the Superdome on Monday. They both know that football games don't get any bigger or better than this.

"It's big. It's bigger than the last one,” Jack Christopher, an Alabama fan, said. “The last one was big enough. It's for all the marbles."

"Very excited,” Michelle Bergeron, LSU fan, said. “It's like the ultimate Louisiana sports weekend. I've been waiting for this for a long time."

With the Hornets playing tonight, the saints playing tomorrow and tigers taking on the tide in the national championship game on Monday, you can bet that the streets of the Big Easy will be filled with sports fans for the next several days.

This year the Tigers have been one interesting team to cover. From off the field issues, to on the field domination, the Tigers have never lacked in those departments, keeping us in the media on our toes.

An interesting angle, when you talk about trials, tribulations and LSU football, you can talk about the two quarterbacks.

Both seniors Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson have been through a lot.

Lee as a freshman baptized under fire - thrown into the mix as the starter and throwing 16 interceptions - becoming know for that.

Meanwhile Jordan Jefferson never the superstar QB, always seemed to shine in the spotlight, but he faced adversity after the Shady’s bar incident, being suspended and then rejoining the team 5 games in the season.

Perhaps no-one has been closer to the two than the guy who has been with them the entire journey in T-Bob Hebert.

“Those guys are like my brothers they are true professionals, crazy to think that Monday will be our last game together,” he said.
