LSU men's hoops win streak snapped by Virginia
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Close but no cigar. The LSU men’s basketball team snapped a seven game win streak Monday night falling to Virginia, 57-54. The Tigers went blow for blow with the 21st-ranked Cavaliers but LSU couldn’t hit the clutch shots down the stretch. Trent Johnson’s team let a five point second half lead slip away over the closing minutes. Ralston Turner fired up a three-ball with just over a minute to go that would have tied the game but it was just off the mark.
Sophomore guard Andre Stringer made his first start since fainting in practice on December 10th. He scored 8 points in his return to action. LSU was led in scoring by center Justin Hamilton who had a career high 21 points.
The Tigers are finished with non-conference play and open up the SEC schedule with Ole Miss on Saturday.
