Lions Report Tuesday For Fall Camp
Sports

POSTED: Monday, July 30, 2012 - 10:00pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, July 31, 2012 - 1:18am

The Southeastern Louisiana University football team reports for fall camp on Tuesday as the Lions prepare for one of their most anticipated seasons in school history.

Opening its 10th season of football since re-instating the program in 2003, Southeastern welcomes back 50 letterwinners and 21 starters for first-year coach Ron Roberts, who won 47 games and four conference titles in five seasons at Division II Delta State.

Players will begin checking into the Dugas Center for Southeastern Athletics at 9 a.m. before going through meetings with school officials, being issued equipment and taking physicals. The first team meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Southeastern will hold its first practice of fall camp in helmets on Wednesday at 4:50 p.m. before resuming drills on Thursday at 4:50. The Lions will don pads for the first time on Friday before working in full gear beginning on Sunday. The first of two-a-day practices are scheduled for Aug. 8 with the first of three scrimmages set for Aug. 11.

All practices are open to the public.

Picked to finish tied for fifth by the Southland Conference coaches and sixth by the league’s Sports Information Directors, Southeastern will open the season on Sept. 1 at SEC newcomer Missouri. The Lions will host South Dakota State (Sept. 8), McNeese State (Sept. 22), Northwestern State (Oct. 13), Central Arkansas (Oct. 27) and Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 10) during the season at Strawberry Stadium.

Season tickets are available by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466 or 1-866-LION-TIX. Membership opportunities are also available in the Lion Athletics Association (LAA) by calling (985) 549-2395.
